About the FBX format
FBX is Autodesk's proprietary interchange format for animation and game assets. It carries meshes, rigs, animation, cameras and materials. Because it is closed and complex, FBX files are rarely accepted by 3D printing tools directly.
Commonly used by: Maya, 3ds Max, Unity, Unreal Engine, Mixamo
Binary and ASCII FBX (version 7.0+) are read. Animation, rigs and external textures are ignored; only the mesh geometry is converted.
